The Bold Blood Red

My favourite lip colour for the end of winter time has to be a dark burgundy/red and the darker the better in my opinion. Although it is admittedly an extremely high maintenance colour to keep on the lip, especially if you're a very on the go person, I can tell you it is totally worth it, it really brings a dull outfit to life, or even makes a good but simple outfit even better. Wearing a plain t-shirt and jeans combo today? Make it look effortlessly amazing by finishing with this bold shade.

Not sure how to style? It's actually quite simple. I have three key pieces of advice that will ensure you look fab and not drab. The first is to 100% line your lips before you take on this trend! Any dark or even normal red lip liner will allow you to keep your lipstick from bleeding onto the rest of your face, as well as maximising its staying power. Next is the obvious, top up regularly! Don't forget to pop this one in your hand bag and refresh after meals/drinks or general long chats! And finally, I suggest you keep the make-up you wear alongside simple. Blend a neutral brown through the crease of your eyes to give them some definition, as well as lining with a extreme black liner (if you're feeling brave even add a wing - you'll look incredible!), but leave it there! Let the lips do the talking - literally.

Want to try and work this look? My three favourites have to be Scarlet Empress by Nars, Diva by MAC and Wine 107 by Rimmel London (Kate Moss Collection). Each have a matte or semi-matte finish, meaning that they have better staying power in comparison to any other finish on the market, and I find in my personal opinion that are less of an "in your face" finish, but instead more subtle-chic. As for liners, match Scarlett Empress with Amazon, Diva with Burgundy or Brick, and Wine with Black Tulip.
